The Meaning Behind "Saorsa"
"Saorsa" is the Gaelic word for freedom. It reflects the core of my practice: helping you find freedom from the weight of anxiety, trauma, and emotional pain, so you can move forward with health and well-being.
Meet the Therapist
Tansy Cattanach, LISW-CP, LCSW-S
Serving clients throughout South Carolina and Texas
Hi, I’m Tansy Cattanach, and I am a clinical social worker licensed in South Carolina and Texas. It is such a privilege to work as a psychotherapist and be a part of the journey that my clients are on.
My passion for this work comes from a deep personal understanding of the challenges many face, especially those related to anxiety, trauma, and emotional pain. My own experiences navigating life’s ups and downs have shaped my desire to help others create meaningful change. I recognize how the events of our past—whether in childhood or adulthood—deeply influence our beliefs and how we interact with the world. My personal journey has fueled my commitment to offering a safe, understanding space where you can explore and heal at your own pace.
My Approach
I take an integrative, research-backed approach to therapy. We will tailor our work to your unique personality, history, and goals:
EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): A trauma-focused therapy designed to help process distressing memories and feelings so they no longer hold power over your present.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy): A practical method to help you understand and shift patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to anxiety or negative feelings.
My aim is to help you find lasting relief while empowering you with tangible tools to continue your journey outside of our sessions.
Faith and a Nonjudgmental Approach
Faith is an important part of my life, and it informs my work in subtle but meaningful ways. I believe that spiritual well-being and mental health are deeply interconnected, and I welcome conversations about how your beliefs intersect with your therapeutic journey. That being said, I take a nonjudgmental stance in my practice. I am committed to providing a safe space where all backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences are respected and honored.
My Background
I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from Texas State University. My clinical foundation includes extensive work within Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) in primary care settings. Today, I leverage that experience to provide consultation to IBH teams, helping them implement effective behavioral health strategies within their own practices. This broader perspective, combined with my focused work in private practice, reinforces my belief that healing is not "one-size-fits-all"—it is a unique process, and I am honored to support you in yours.
A Little More About Me
Outside of my work, I love spending time with my family and serving my community. Whether we are traveling, camping, or enjoying the beach, I find joy in creating memories and traditions. I also serve on the board of a homeless coalition and at my local church. Throughout it all, I strive to practice compassion—offering myself and others grace, especially in moments where growth is still unfolding.
